This issue reminds me of how far we've come since I first read Ayn Rand’s Introduction to Objectivist Epistemology in 1973. She writes at the end of Chapter 5, Definitions,
“It is as it, philosophically, mankind is still in that stage of transition which characterizes a child in the process of learning to speak--a child who is using his conceptual faculty, but has not developed it sufficiently to be able to examine it self-consciously and discover that what he is using is reason.”
Whatever is driving the culture along the muddy bottom of wishing can make it so, it's a helluva long way from reason.
