Overall, I liked you definition of capitalism Professor Thompson, however I don't like the idea of describing contracts as "inviolable." To me that sounds as if nobody, not even the Government can violate them, because they have some intrinsic value or protection. But isn't it the role of the Government to define the parameters for what may be considered a legitimate contract and what may not? And isn't it the proper function of the state to ensure that legitimate contracts are protected, but illegitimate contracts are expunged? Which surely means that the Government has the power and the right to violate a contract?
